Devenger
Place Family Center
Rules and Regulations for the Pool Area
I. General
1. The Devenger Board Vice President
has the operational and administrative responsibility
for the pool.
2. The Board VP has authority over the Pool Manager
and lifeguards, including the ability to hire
and dismiss.
3. Complaints about the pool operations should
be directed to the Pool Manager. If not resolved,
it should be discussed with the Board VP. Finally,
unresolved issues should be submitted in writing
to the Board of Directors.
4. The names of the pool staff on duty shall be
placed on the bulletin board.
5. These rules may be revised or additional rules
established at any time by the Board.
6. The Board has the authority as stated in the
by-laws to establish these regulations and designate
its representatives (e.g., VP, Pool Manager, and
lifeguards) to enforce them.
7. The pool opening hours will vary between 10:00
a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and will remain open no later
than 11:00 p.m. The actual schedule may vary,
and will be posted on the bulletin board and/or
in the Devenger newsletter.
8. On weekdays, the pool or portions thereof may
be "blocked off' for group or individual
swimming lessons and other activities as approved
by the Board. Notices of such activities will
be posted.
9. The pool will close when necessary for maintenance
or inclement weather at the discretion of the
Pool Manager.
II. Registration
1. Each member, ten and older,
must sign in when entering
the pool area. Also, the names of children under
the age often must be registered so the Pool Manager
will know who is responsible for all persons using
the pool area.
2. Each member must have in their possession their pool membership tag in order to gain entry into the pool. No tag – No entry, No Exceptions
3. Members will be charged $10.00 per tag for replacement of lost or stolen tags.
III. Guests
1. In order to keep the pool from
becoming overcrowded, members are requested to
use discretion in the number and frequency of
invited guests.
2. All guests must be registered with the Pool
Manager by a member of the host family.
3. No one who is eligible for permanent membership
is permitted to be a guest.
4. There may be no more than four local guests
per family membership at any one time. Local guests
must be accompanied by a current member and pay
a fee of $3.00 per day.
5. House guests visiting from outside Greenville
County shall have all the privileges of the current
member and may use the pool without restrictions
normally placed on local guests. Extended guest
status will require substantiation.
6. Babysitters must present a note to the Pool
Manager from the parents of the child to swim
under the supervision of the babysitter. The babysitter
must be 15 years or older and in close proximity
to those in his or her cares. Babysitters do not
have to pay the $3.00 guest fee if they are not
members. Lifeguards are not employed as babysitters.
7. The pool is for the exclusive use of the members
and their guests.
IV. Safety
and Health
1. All members and guests, including
children, should use the pool and its facilities
at their own risk.
2. Children 10 and under, or a rising 5th grader,
who can pass the proscribed swimming test and
display safe behavior, shall be allowed to use
the pool without parental supervision. Children
and those who cannot pass the swimming test must
be accompanied by an adult. Anyone supervising
children must be at least 15 years of age.
3. Water wings or life preservers may be used
only by children learning to swim, who are under
10, and in close proximity to the responsible
adult and in the 3 foot section of the pool only.
No other flotation devices, such as rafts or Styrofoam
items, will be allowed in the pool.
4. Use of the Baby pool shall be limited to pre-school
children under the direct supervision and control
of their parent or guardian.
5. As a safety precaution, a 15-minute rest period
will be observed by all persons under the age
of 17.
6. The management has the right to limit activities
they feel are unsafe.
7. No glass containers of any kind are allowed
in the pool area. All beverages must be in metal,
plastic, or paper containers.
8. No running, pushing, wrestling, or causing
undue disturbance in the pool area will be permitted.
9. Special precautions must be observed in the
diving area. Only one person is permitted on the
diving board at a time. There will be no hanging
on the board and no diving or jumping to the side
of the board.
10. Persons entering the pool must wear proper
swimming attire. Bermuda shorts, cut-offs, jeans,
etc. are prohibited. The filter system cannot
work when clogged by strings from frayed suits.
11. No smoking or eating within 4 feet of the
pool. Trash cans are provided.
12. No pets or animals are permitted inside the
enclosed pool area.
13. Expectorating and blowing of the nose in the
pool is prohibited.
14. Swimmers are requested to remove all loose
metal objects, such as jewelry, ID bracelets,
hair clips, etc., before going into the pool.
15. No hanging or playing on lifeguard stands
or life lines.
16. Additional safety regulations may be posted
by the Pool Manager.
17. If the rules and regulations are violated,
after appropriate warning, the Pool Manager is
authorized to ask the violator to leave the pool
area for up to 24 hours.
18. All diapered infants must wear disposable
swim diapers, or rubber or plastic pants and swim
suits. Parents are responsible for cleaning up
after infants.
V. Club Property
1. It is requested that all members
and guests protect the pool side and clubhouse
equipment and property. Any property damage due
to the fault or negligence by a member or a member's
family or guest must be repaired or replaced by
the responsible member.
2. No members, other than the Board VP, shall
give instructions to the Pool Manager or lifeguards
regarding the operations or discipline within
the pool area.
3. No members, other than the pool staff assigned,
shall be permitted in the pump house or the chlorine
room for any reason.
4. It is common courtesy not to tie up chairs
or lounges with towels or other items. The chairs
are for sitting and sunning.
5. Adult members and adult guests shall be given
first priority to the pool side furniture.
VI. Miscellaneous
1. Positively no intoxicants
will be allowed on Devenger Family Center property,
except as part of controlled social events approved
by the board. No drugs will be allowed at any
time.
2. If a member wished to use the pool for a special
party (for example, a birthday party), the local
guest rule will be expanded to a maximum of 15
guests for a one-hour period. Reservations must
be made with the Pool Manager two weeks in advance.
The pool will not close its normal activities
during this time. Children attending such a function
should be kept consolidated as much as possible.
Parental supervision is required. There must be
one adult for every five children.
3. No abusive language is allowed.
4. Members and guests shall drive slowly and carefully
on the driveway and parking area. All motor vehicles
and bicycles shall be parked in the designated
areas.
5. Devenger Place Family Center will not be responsible
for loss or damages to personal property on or
within the area of the pool and nearby property.
6. Swimming lessons will be given on a schedule
to be posted by the Pool Manager.
7. Swimming lessons may be given only be a person
who holds a valid Water Safety Instructor card.
8. Each person using the pool is required to help
keep the pool area clean, neat, and orderly.
9. If the pool cannot be reopened following inclement
weather by 7:00 p.m., it shall remain closed.
This does not apply to privately scheduled evening
activities.
10. Food and drink will not be permitted in the
shower rooms. Loitering and littering in these
areas will not be permitted.
11. The members and their families acknowledge
that there is always an element of danger in using
swimming facility, and they agree to exercise
due care and responsibility in the use thereof.
